prepare for takeoff

I have quad core Intel chips which have overheated under a heavy load since day 1. I was running the fancy dancy swiftech aluminum pin heatsinks. Turns out that I didn't really need new coolers, I needed a fan which has 4 wires, and has variable speed...

Finally I've solved my overheating problem. The fan has the coveted 4 wire connector which attaches to the motherboard. Meaning that the MB will control the fan speed.

At any RPM over 3000 the fan gets very loud. It becomes very annoying after only 30 minutes for me.

Works Fine, Grease terrible

Dual Intel Xeon E5410 Harpertown 2.33GHz, TYAN S5396A2NRF Dual LGA 771 Intel 5400, 2x Kingston 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 FB-DIMM DDR2 667, Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS , XFX PVT88PYDD4 GeForce 8800GT XXX 512MB, COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP,...

I also used these on dual Xeon E5410s in a Tyan S5396. Fits perfectly. I can't speak as to the cooling difference as I did not use the Xeon stock fans at all. I don't think these fans are loud at all. By far the loudest thing in this build is the XFX...

Lost an egg because the thermal grease that comes with these coolers is absolutely terrible. If you buy these you will need to buy separate grease. The grease did not spread, it seemed very old. Ran to my local computer store and purchased an...

Great for the Price

These coolers worked great with my Asus DSBF-D motherboard and were not loud at all when properly used with the BIOS fan controllers.

Keeps the system cool.

Server cooling

I don't know if the ambient temperature is too high, air flow problems or what but I do not see a difference in the cooling power of these HSFs. I'm also using the Arctic Cooling MX2 thermal paste.

Easy to install...keeps my 2x quad core Xeon E5420s around 38c to 42c idle...

I get about same cooling effect from the stock passive heatsinks in my 4U server case...

Cool and Quiet !

I think others have had issues with the coolers being loud because of the motherboard specs. I'm running a Tyan Motherboard S5396. Works great.

Keeps my dual Xeon Quad Core E5345's very cool and runs very quiet. Easy to install. Rock Solid !

No issues. No complaints

Unfortunate piece of hardware

The cooling performance is only 1-5% better than what you get with the stock active cooler from Intel, but it's ten times louder. I don't think that's worth it.

Cools the CPU very well

Extremely loud ; roughly as loud as a vacuum cleaner

Great Fans

I have these installed in my server at the office. they sit on 3.0 GHz Dual Core Xeon Processors on a Super Micro MB. They run very cool at least 15 to 30% cooler than the OEM Heatsink and Fan.

These are great running fans. They are a ilttle loud at first but setting up your hardware monitor in your bios correctly will take care of that.

None What SO ever

Needs a mod, but easy!

Take these sinks, but a 80MM Vantec tornado, and make it fit. Maybe 10 minutes work with your cordless drill. Instant 8-10C drop in temps versus the stock fan and actually a bit quieter and you have a fan that will last. Used that combo the last 4...

Best designed socket 771 HS available with maybe the exception of the ThermalRight.

Factory fans are louder than heck and you will kill them in short time. Had one go beserk to 11,000RPM recored in bios.

Jet engines as heatsinks

These are so loud, I actually thought I had a short in my system and the fans were running off 220 instead of 110! They are seriously THAT loud.

Cools great, very fast.

The fans on these heatsinks are so ridiculously loud it isn't even funny. I have two of them on dual quad core XEON's and I definitely would consider other options if you are going to be in the same room with your computer.
