Dell XPS 710

BTX/Dell cooling system, powerful graphics, CPU and 750watt PSU, Minimal noise emission, Tool-less case design, Cable management

Size and weight

The Dell XPS 710 may require a slightly deeper pocket than your average PC, but it's a powerful machine with an individual design that's both functional and stylish.

Dell Dimension XPS 710 H2C review

The PC we're afraid to be left alone with...

About as mighty as they come ; Icy-cool factory overclock

Panic-inducing price ; Dodgy software overload

A true monster of a system, designed only for the minted and/or clinically insane gamer

Dell XPS 710

The Dell XPS 710 is a powerful system. With Intel's quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor and 2GB of DDR2-667 RAM, the system earned a score of 151 on our WorldBench 5 benchmark--a strong result, but below the marks achieved by the quad-core...

Chassis has robust design ; Plenty of expansion room

Side panel is hard to remove

This large, quiet PC provides plenty of performance and expandability for the gamer who has the budget for it.

Dell XPS 710 review

When we first wrote about the Dell XPS 710 on November 1, we weren't able to give it a full review because we didn't know the price. Dell finally gave us the number: $5,344 for the configuration we tested. This revelation and some issues with the...

Quad-core CPU brings forward-looking performance; Dell's XPS 700-series chassis remains one of the most unique-looking PC cases on the market; large case means lots of expandability.

Outperformed by much cheaper competitors; Dell's long qualification periods for new graphics hardware might mean more reliability, but it also means that other PCs have next-gen hardware today that the XPS 710 doesn't offer.

The XPS 710 brings quad-core processing to Dell's flagship desktop, but competing systems from others outshine this system in too many ways for us to recommend it. We still like the case and the build quality, and Dell has even beefed up its support,...

Dell XPS 710

The Dell XPS 710 builds on the company's XPS 700 line, using the same striking red (or black) chassis, a 1,000-watt power supply, and Intel's latest quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6700 CPU. Toss in 2GB of DDR2/667 memory, a pair of ATI X1950 XTX graphics...

Smooth and stable. Good fit and finish. Striking chassis design. Relatively quiet even under load

Doesn't take full advantage of nVidia's 590 SLI chipset. Case is very heavy and large. Overclockable, but overclocking isn't supported. BTX chassis limits upgrade options

Dell's XPS 710 builds on the older XPS 700 by adding Intel quad-core support and ATI's latest CrossFire graphics technology. Offering typically smooth Dell performance and stability, it takes few risks, but buyers may wish for just a little more.

Dell XPS 710 H2C

Speaking of cooling, the system's new H2C (which stands for "hot to cold") cooler, nicknamed "Black Ice," uses a two-stage liquid cooling system to keep noise down while providing the thermal capacity needed for high-performance overclocking. The...

Massive Windows XP gaming performance. Overclocked quad-core performance for everything else. Quick 10,000-rpm drives for multimedia tasks. Quiet, once the system boots up. Unique styling. Intelligent port covers. Included 15-month Internet Security...

Takes up a lot of desk or floor space. Pricey. Vista gaming performance lags behind Win XP's (stay tuned for driver updates). Could use a digital media card reader and windowed case. Love-it-or-hate-it styling

Dell cranks it up to 11 with its latest, the XPS 710 H2C. The H2C stands for "hot to cold," which cools the overclocked Core 2 Extreme processor more intelligently than previous cooling solutions.

Dell Dimension XPS 710 H2C

We're still recovering from the battering to our self-esteem that the last XPC gave us. It was designed to humble, to make men feel like boys. A glance at the core spec of its follow-up, however, shows that Dell has raised the bar to a whole new level

A showcase of the latest and greatest high-end technology, the H2C leaves the factory tuned as fast as the hardware will stand and is loaded with every high-performance extra you could wish for

Top-end gaming performance, ready for anything

Massive case, questionably useful PhysX card, no high-def drive
