Apple 24-inch aluminum iMac review roundup

Now that you've had time to watch us fool around with Apple's latest iMac and even chew on a few benchmarks, it's about time the aluminum-clad machine suffered...

24-inch iMac Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz review

The 24-inch iMac Core 2 Duo/2.66GHz proves better value for the money than the low-end model.

Compact, all-in-one design ; big, beautiful screen ; better value for the money than the low-end model.

Glossy screen may frustrate some users ; FireWire 400 peripherals require an adapter.

The iMac continues to be a desktop Mac that’s powerful enough to please both general consumers and professionals. Users who have a sizeable investment in FireWire 400 peripherals may be discouraged from upgrading, but we’ve probably seen the last of...

Review: Apple's new 24-inch iMac (aluminum)

The mid-2007 overhaul of Apple's iconic desktop is the first true evidence of a switch in Apple's design direction since the company's switch to Intel processors. But while it represents two steps forward in terms of ergonomics and performance, pro...

Slick new design ; Screen is gorgeous in specific circumstances. ; Very fast, especially for converts from PowerPC Macs. ; Keyboard is a tangible improvement over the old model. ; One RAM slot is finally free for an upgrade. ; Less expensive than the...

Glossy screen can be distracting; no option for matte. ; Only 1GB of memory standard. ; Radeon HD 2600 Pro is underpowered versus its NVIDIA alternative. ; No Apple Remote magnet or sleep light.

Having to choose computers from only one vendor means that many buyers won't have much choice: for now, the iMac is still Apple's lone choice for a mid-range desktop. That said, most home customers will find a lot to like in what Apple has to offer....

Love it

I've only had it a couple days but so far, I'm impressed. I installed Vista Ultimate on a partition and it also seems to run perfectly. This is really like two computers in one.

Rock solid OS. Beautiful display. Quick

None so far

Not as expected

Unfortunatly for me, it didn't compete with my computer.

Sleek, thin, 24inch, Core 2, SUPPORTS 4GB of ram, built in wireless n and blutooth, decent sound quality, OS X leopard

only a core 2, 2gb of ddr2(why not ddr3? chipset control the ram here), hd 2600 pro lol, i can see ghosting on the monitor(it needs a faster respons time for me

The OS is great, the computer is garbage

I wish people would stop going on about the "value" of macs. They have none other than for people who cant be bothered to learn how to use a computer. And here's something steve jobs doesn't like people knowing: there are other music and image editing...

Okay so while this is not my daily machine, I end up using these core 2 duo machines on a weekly basis either work or school or friend's house. The OS is fast and stable, as advertised. There are actually occasional crashes but nowhere near the level...

So many to list and so little room

Unless you are a hard core gamer, you can't go wrong

With RAM as inexpensive as it has been for well over the last year, why didn't Apple just throw in the 4GB or RAM to begin with? Also, if you do decide to up your RAM, buy it from Newegg and install it yourself. My local Mac shop talked about prices...

I have owned my 24" dual core 2.8 iMac since May of '08 and only had one complaint about it. That single complaint was resolved recently when I upped the RAM from 2 to 4 GB. This thing does everything I want and expect it to and more. I can run just...

If you are a "hard core" gamer (ie. you have no significant other/family and only eat delivered food) this is not your machine. If you haven't ditched the semi annual hardware swap routine to keep up because you enjoy it, stick with your Alienware

IMac is terrible

i think i just about covered it

it is very user friendly, great for those who have no idea what to do with a computer... it is quite fast for basic applications

it is OVERPRICED!!! You can't run anything on it that might be used for something productive. It's practically nothing more than a big overpriced toy. For the price of ANY Mac (not just this one) you can get a PC that will run ten times faster and more...

An 'okay' family unit with sub-standard screen quality

For peace-of-mind, I highly recommend purchasing a good external USB 2 drive to use with OS X's Time Machine. It takes a while initially to back everything up, but Time Machine has saved my bacon a few times, and is invaluable if your install of OS X...

Apple has made a good all-in-one computer for those who don't need to expand their system, who want to enjoy the 'digital lifestyle', who don't need fast performance and who aren't power users

This 24" unit has the following issues

My First Mac

Despite all of the benefits of a Mac I just can't justify the price.

Beautiful screen, great design, silent, fast boot time, MacOSX runs great. Very mature and polished system. Worry free browsing, no need for security software

EXPENSIVE. Purchased 4 GB DDRAM from Newegg and Applecare from Apple for a grand total of about two grand. That money buys a lot in the PC world. The mouse and the keyboard are terrible. Outdated graphic chip
