Quick start-up. Good DVD video upconversion. Supports Bonus View Blu-ray features.

No upconverted 1080p24 output with DVD movies. Ineffective 1080i video upconversion.

The Samsung BD-P1500 is a great player to finally take the HD plunge with. The price is right, it looks and sounds great with BD and will also make the most of your DVDs and CDs.

Impressive Blu-ray performance ; Rapid load/start-up times ; Solid DVD upscaling

Firmware upgrade needed for Profile 2.0 ; No DTS-HD Master Audio/analogue multichannel audio output

Conclusion Samsung's got more experience with Blu-ray than most and its latest affordable player clearly demonstrates this. It's a shame Samsung's timing wasn't better, and the BD-P1500 was shipped as Profile 2.0 compliant with DTS-HD Master Audio...
