Plustek OpticFilm 8100

 

The Plustek OpticFilm 8100 film scanner delivers reasonably high-quality scans, but it lacks hardware-based dust and scratch removal and requires some effort to get good scans.

Rated at 7,200 pixels-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution. Comes with SilverFast SE Plus 8, a sophisticated scan utility .

Scans only one slide or frame of film at a time. Little to no automation in software. No hardware-based dust and scratch removal.

If you need to scan only 35mm film and slides, and you're the kind of perfectionist who wants manual control to adjust the settings just so on every scan, the Plustek OpticFilm 8100 will give you that capability for a lower price than the Epson V700....

The Plustek OpticFilm 8100 is a compact film scanner with 7200dpi resolution.

It’s questionable how much of an advance the 8100 is over previous Plustek models, and there seems little reason for owners of previous OpticFilms to upgrade. Nonetheless, SilverFast SE Plus 8 is a very effective piece of software, and the 8100...

Very good quality

 

No IR dust reduction. $100 less than the next model up. Perfect for B&W negatives than cannot benefit from IR dust reduction. Be aware that if you want to do Kodachrome with any scanner, you really need a Kodachrome calibration slide, which is extra.

Very good quality. Pretty good price.

This scanner has many, many controls if you are not inclined to use them get a scanner that is more automatic.

When working it produces very high quality scans

The SilverFast8 software is a nightmare to install and update, having many conflicts with anti-virus software. Silverfast are slow to respond to requests for help.
